PLANT DESCRIPTION:
The SOLVENT EXTRACTION PLANT has an aqueous flow rate of 55gpm. This single train can process 15% excess flow. There are (2) extraction settlers per train. The Organic to aqueous ratios to mixers is 1:1. There are (2) pump mixers per settler. The mixer retention time is 3 minutes per stage. The settling rate is 1.0 USGPM per square ft. The mass velocity is 1.0 cm/sec. The settler is 36” deep. The organic depth is 16 ½” (nom) and the freeboard allowance is 8 ½” (nom). The extractant type is Cognis LIX984 or equivalent, the volume is 30% Cognis with SG of 0.92. The centipoise is 200 @ 60F. The Phillips diluent is 70% by volume with a SG of 0.82. The diluent viscosity centipoises is 1.8 @ 60F and the diluent flashpoint is 155F-165F. The copper concentration loaded is 10.8 grams per liter and the stripped organic is 4.5 grams per liter. The phase continuity in extraction is aqueous in stage 1 and organic in stage 2. The plant operates 365 days per year with a copper transfer efficiency of 95%. The advance electrolyte flow rate is 43.2 gpm. There is 1 stripping train with (2) strip settlers per train and (2) scrub settlers per train. The overall organic to aqueous ratio is 1:1 the same as the ratio to mixers. There are (2) pump mixers per settler. The total mixer retention time per stage is 3 minutes. The settling rate is is 1.0 USGPM per square foot and the mass velocity is 1.0 cm/second. The spent electrolyte 36.3 gpl of Cu++ , 180 gpl of H2SO4 ans 2.0 max gpl of Fe. The strong electrolyte composition is 48.2 gpl of Cu, 161.4 gpl of H2SO4, 2.0 gpl max of Fe, 100 ppm max of Cl and 60ppm of Co. The copper transfer from electrolyte is 12.0 net gpl. The copper transfer from electrolyte is 12 net grams per liter. The phase continuity is stripping 1: organic, stripping 2 aqueous, scrub 1 aqueous and scrub 2 aqueous. The design Cu/Fe transfer ratio is 300:1

The ELECTRO-WINNING PLANT produces 1000TPA or 3 TPD (24). There are (220) Stainless-Steel cathodes with copper hanger bars. There are (9) polymer concrete commercial cells in 1 row. The solution advance rate is 43.3GPM, flow-rate per cell is 28GPM, and the total circulation rate is 250GPM. The current operating density is 17 amps/ft2. with a maximum of 21 amps/ft2. The current design efficiency is 85%. There are 39 variable-cycle cathodes per cell. Each cathode is 34”x34” with 4” spacing. There are (175) 316SS cathodes and (45) 254 SMO cathodes. There are 40 anodes per cell. Each anode is 32-1/2”x46-3/8” with 3/8” nominal thickness. The anode construction is: Rolled Sheet, Ca 0.06-0.07, Sn 0.3-0.35, Al 0.005-0.010, and Pb remainder. The commercial cell growth period is 7 days with a pull schedule of 5 days per week. There is (1) Thyrister type step-less rectifier with a max voltage of 24V, with 20A/KA maximum. The multiple leaf, welded bus system is rated at 650 amp/sq inch. The circuit design of the bus system is floating ground type with shorting-bar cell by-pass. There are hand-held gauss meters available for short detection.
